WELLINGTON, Florida, Mar. 27, 2014–Adrienne Lyle who gave up a chance to go to the World Cup Final to insure her Wizard’s health, posted a personal best score of 74.160 per cent to win the Grand Prix at the $132,000 Adequan Global Dressage Festival CDI5* Thursday.

The Olympic partnership of Adrienne of Ketchum, Idaho and the 15-year-old Oldenburg gelding that was out of commission with an injury for much of 2013 was the winner over their London Games team mates Tina Konyot of Palm City, Florida and Calecto V on 72.270 per cent and Denmark’s Mikala Gundersen and My Lady in third on 72.520 per cent.

Since their return to the competition arena at this 12-week winter circuit, Adrienne and Wizard (Weltmeyer x Classiker) have made a dramatic impact with six first place finishes, three times second and once fifth.

The pair had attained one of two scores required to vie for one of the two places the North American League is assigned in the World Cup Final. But Wizard appeared slightly off days before their last chance for the second score and Adrienne opted to skip a possible trip to Lyon, France to make sure the horse was fit and healthy.

The goal now, she said, is to focus on keeping Wizard at his peak for the selection trials for the American team for the World Equestrian Games and a second chance this year for a visit to France, this time to Normandy in late August.

This CDI5* with $24,000 for both the Grand Prix and the Special and $84,000 for the Freestyle under lights Friday night wraps up a winter circuit that has broken Western Hemisphere records with the number of entries in CDIs.

Canada’s Ashley Holzer on Tiva Nana won the CDI3* Grand Prix with a score of 70.000 per cent with Laura Graves of Geneva, Florida and Verdades second on 69.140 per cent and Canada’s Megan Lane on Caravella third on 69.120 per cent.
